Resumen:
The La Ciénega valley is an intermontane valley of reduced dimentions at nothwest of Tucumán province, Argentina. It has 15 km2 of surface and it is located between 2500 and 2800 masl of altitude. This area is between 65º38’ and 65º41’ S and 26º45’ and 26º49’ W.             The area is formed by two basins (La Ciénega and La puerta rivers) and their affluents.             The purpose of this research was to identify the geomorphological units of this area determining its genesis and peleoenvironmental evolution.             Aerial photographs at two different scales (1:50,000 and 1:10,000) were used together with terrain controls.             It was possible to identify different geomorphological units representing different geological ages. Surfaces of planation at the top of the pountains are modelled over Precambric metamorphic rocks. Finally Quaternary deposits that form glacis (three levels), alluvial fans, and fluvial terraces.
