The recycling of plastics from bumpers and boards of automobiles has been analyzed. Thecharacterization of the plastics allowed to determine that polypropylene and polyethylene arethe structures of the bumpers and boards, which have a load of metals (Mn, Fe, Al, Zn) formingcarbonates and phyllosilicates. The results indicate that; (i) it is possible to leach the metalsfrom bio-generated H2SO4, (ii) the combustion/incineration of the plastics causes volatilization of metals and (iii) the ash formed in contact with water modifies its pH. Correct management of plastics should include the recovery of metals, the subsequent incineration under emission control, and finally, the inertization of the ash.
