This is an introduction to a book about the South American archaeological evidence during the Late Pleistocene /Early Holocene and dedicated to teh First Americans. Greater complexity and variability of the early arcaheological record than previously recognized have become highlighted during this special symposium, held in La Plata Museum during December 2000.
