The study lasted 18 months and was located at Chascomús (Prov. Buenos Aires, Argentina) and a factorial design (nitrogen x phosphorus) was used. Labile fractions of soil phosphorus were also measured. Biomass production showed a marked seasonality, minimum in winter, which did not change with fertilization. Significant increases in dry matter accumulation due to fertilization were observed in two measurement dates. Phosphorus addition overcompensated the phosphorus lost in removed dry matter and removed nitrogen were greatest than nitrogen inputs (in all treatments). Fertilization had little influence on nutrient composition of herbage and on fractionation of labile phosphorus
