Resumen:
A new 3D geological model of Corrientes province (Argentina) is presented from the integration of several geological and geophysical data. This model allows visualizing the Corrientes deep geological structure and how affected the Guarani Aquifer System (GAS). The model was built from five layers easily distinguishable in the region: i) basement, ii) pre-GAS sediments; iii) GAS sediments; iv) Serra Geral basalts and v) post basaltic sediments. The resulting geometry shows a basement with horst (Mercedes High) and grabens (Curuzú and Corrientes) with NNE trending and more than 3500 m of sedimentary thickness. The depocenters suggest the existence of significant pre-carboniferous sediments associated to early-paleozoic extensional structures. Furthermore, the axis of the main structural high, the Dorsal Asunción-Rio Grande (DARG), has been outlined. In this area, the GAS and the basaltic layer are thinner and the Mesozoic sediments rise near the surface; as a result, it is an area prone to local recharge and regional discharge of the GAS.
