Resumen:
Oxygen consumption in mitochondria and nerve endings isolated from rat cerebral cortex was studied after the administration of the convulsant 3-mercaptopropionic acid. It was found that the respiratory rate of these fractions was higher than in the controls; the increases were observed only in the presence of exogenous substrate. On the other hand no changes were found in slices or when the drug was added ?in vitro?. The possible interpretation of this effect by 3-mercaptopropionic acid is discussed.
