Resumen:
ABSTRACT: Droughts are extreme hydrological phenomena that affect humanity in different aspects: natural, social, cultural, etc., which inevitably result in economic losses.Proper planning of the use and management of the water resource requires, mainly, the awareness that "water is a finiteand vulnerable resource, essential for sustaining life, development and the environment"In the planning and management stages of water resources, the uncertainty associated with the demand and supply ofwater available in a region must be taken into account. In this regard it is key to know and predict the behavior ofavailable water resources in time and space for decision making and identification of the fragility of systems in the sameregion. The temporal analysis allows to know the characteristics (intensity and magnitude) of the droughts that occurred in thepast, and to take the necessary measures for the adequate management of the water resources in the future. On the otherhand, the spatial analysis allows to know the most affected areas and to establish the fragility of the systems that supplythe same region. The drought characterization is approached from a hydrological approach, using data from the annual contributions ofsix basins located in the Patagonia of the Argentine Republic: Neuquén River, Limay River, Collón Cura River, ChubutRiver, Senguer River and Santa Cruz River.Droughts and are presented in a matrix, where the columns represent the geographical location (from north to south)and rows the calendar year. The different drought thresholds are identified in color scale.
