The oceanfront shoreline at the south of Punta Mogotes (Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires) has been facing a progressive erosion for many years due to natural processes and also human activities. In this work a preliminary design of an infrastructure has been developed to ensure the protection of the coast. The infrastructure design consists of a series of detached breakwaters parallel to the coast. The hydrodynamic and the sediment transport have been considered for both cases: the preliminary design and the natural condition. The study has been performed at different time-space scales: short term (hours) and long term (months-years). The results indicate that the proposed scheme would work properly protecting the coast without the formation of tómbolos.?tómbolos?.
