-Psychological research in Argentina: The objective of this presentation is to show how the psychological research in Argentina is organized , including centers, grants, journals, scientific associations, and principal areas of research, to facilitate the interchange, communication, and working together with psychologists elsewhere in the world . Moreover it is highlighted the importance of including psychological research in the general system of science, of preparing many young researchers at the universities, and of investing economical resources, that made Argentina one of the most developed countries of the region in psychological research. This presentation will include the description of scientific system in Argentina. This system is integrated by the National Council of Scientific and Technological Research (CONICET), which depends on the Ministry of Science. Psychological research is carried out in the CONICET Centers and in universities units. Psychological research in Argentina began with Victor Mercante who founded the first Experimental Psychology Center in San Juan City (1891). In 1941, Dr Horacio Rimoldi created the first Psychometric Laboratory in Mendoza. In 1970, the psychological research was included in the national research system (CONICET) through the organization of the Mathematical and Experimental Psychological Research Center (CIIPME) by Dr Rimoldi. It will be also described the different kinds of grants that include those of the Ministry of Science, CONICET, and national and private universities, which give economical support for research projects and doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships. It will be mentioned the main research centers and institutes, and their theoretical and empirical lines of research, analyzing the relative weight of psychological research with respect to that of other social sciences, and of the named ?hard sciences?. Finally, it will be presented the most important psychological journals and research associations in Argentina.
