Resumen:
A brief introduction about general characters on morphology and biology of the order Araneae is provided, emphazising on systematics, taxonomy and diversity in the country. Araneae is one of the megadiverse orders in the Animal kingdom and is represented worldwide by 112 families, 3880 genera and more than 43000 species. For Argentina 70 families, 461 genera and 1265 species have been cited, although many evidences suggest that these counts are very far from the realistic diversity, even at family level that still were not formally cited for the cou ntry, but were collected frequently in recent times, as Desidae (with the synanthropic species Badumna longinqua), Ochyroceratidae, and Synotaxidae (with still unnamed taxa). A dichotomic key for identification of the families present in Argentina is provided, with a glossary with anatomic terms for the order.
