Resumen:
The concept of ecosystem services (ES) refers to different goods and beneftsthat society obtains from natural ecosystems. One way to graphically represent ES is with a cascade model. This methodology allowed us to understand the connections between natural and social systems, and the synergies (positives and negatives) that can limit the provision of ES. We proposed a model for forested landscapes in southern Patagonia that provided an understanding of how different vegetation types (e.g. forests, grasslands, high mountain vegetation) provided specifc ecological functions (e.g. biomass growth, water regulation) and produced different ES (e.g. raw material, livestock, water provision).
