The growing demand for high-purity quartz in theinternational market led to the systematic investigation of thequality of this mineral in deposits of the province of Cordoba(Argentina). As a result of this study, 36 sites over 150 sampleddeposits have been identified with SiO2 >=99.99%. The chemical analysis were performed with XRF and controlledby atomic absorption. Geologically, it was possible to classify thequality of quartz according to its environment and genesis. Thisdetermined that the high-purity quartz correspond to veins far awayfrom the Achala and Alpa Corral batoliths and occur in metamorphicrocks, followed by pegmatitic quartz from inside the batoliths andlastly by quartz of well-known hydrothermal origin.
