Resumen: This chapter examines similarities and differences in the relations between China and three South American countries: Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. It focuses on political, diplomatic, trade, investment and migratory matters, on the basis of differences in cultural belongings, political regimes and economic structures. In this last field, although China plays an important role in the economic modernization of the three countries, official statistical data show a ?lost decade? in trade, particularly in Argentina. China?s FDI, investments through tax havens, currency swap and loans for infrastructure projects was developed in Argentina, but not in Uruguay and Paraguay. This last country received Taiwan international aid, but Taiwan hasn?t executed an attracting strategy on Paraguayan trade and investment. In the migration field, differences appear between the large number of Chinese immigrants in Argentina, the role of Taiwanese immigration in Paraguay and the restricted policy of Uruguay towards Chinese citizens. Finally, the chapter concludes some assertions about similarities and differences in the five fields of the relations between China and the three countries on the basis of three main mentioned differences.
