Resumen:
The history of diplomatic relations between Argentina and China is divided into three periods. Since the first contacts made in 1909, what predominated in the exchanges between both countries was China?s interest in being recognized by Argentina. However, China´s diplomatic efforts failed due to its internal situation and the priority given by the Argentine governments to maintaining its trade relations with Japan. The second period started in 1945, when Argentina and the Republic of China established diplomatic relations, although the emergence of the People´s Republic of China (PRC) four years later disturbed the normal development of the interactions. During this time, Argentina maintained official relations with the Republic of China and intermittent trade and cultural contacts with the PRC. A third and final period began in 1972 when Argentina recognized the PRC and interrupted its diplomatic relations with the Republic of China. Since then, Argentina has uninterruptedly maintained political recognition and diplomatic relations with the PRC.
