Influence of restraint on fracture toughness of multipass MMA weld deposits

The influence of the degree of restraint of test pieces on Fracture Toughness of multipass MMA butt welds are analized in this paper. Weld deposits produced wíth four AWS E7018 type experimental electrodes, with different Manganese leve ls, were used for the investigatian. Susceptibility to Dynamic Strain Ageing and írs relarion to fracture toughriess degradation,as measured by standard Charpy- V and COD tests, were derermined for each elecrrode. Minimum reduction in fracture toughness due to increased test papel restraint and minimum susce pt ib ility to strain ageingdamage were both obtained with a Mn level in the deposit close to 1.5%.
