Resumen:
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine pathologythat also affects metabolism. It is one of the maincauses of female infertility of ovarian origin, being characterizedby a failure in the development of the dominantfollicle thus, inhibiting ovulation. Several animal modelsare used in the study of PCOS (primates, sheep, rat andmouse), suggesting that the pathways implicated in itsetiology could be conserved in mammals. Likewise, incows exists an equivalent disease called cystic ovariandisease (COD), that is one of the most important disordersin dairy cows. Both pathologies have multifactorialorigins and it has been found that they show homologouspathways associated with their etiopathogeny. PCOSand COD are of great interest in clinics and veterinarydue to their high incidence and to their association withother pathologies such as type 2 diabetes, hepatic steatosisand cardiovascular disease in PCOS; and stress, infections and endocrine disruption in COD. This symposiumproposes a comparative approach of the factorsinvolved in the etiopathogeny of PCOS and EQO thatcontribute to the alteration of folliculogenesis and hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis. In addition, we proposeto study the impact of these factors on the metabolic riskand to contribute to the development of new diagnosisand therapeutic approaches.
