Resumen:
We survey applications of holonomic methods to submanifold geometry, showing the the consequence of some sort of extrinsic version of the de Rham decompostion theorem and Berger holonomy theorem, the so-called normal holonomy theorem. At the same time we sketch strong applications of submanifold geometry to Lorentzian holonomy. We also give a conceptual proof of a result of Kostant.
