Resumen:
A code for computational simulationof internal combustion engines is presented. Onedimensionalgas dynamics equations are used for modelthe flow through pipes and manifolds, and the remainingcomponents in the engine (cylinders, valves, etc.)are modeled by using thermodynamic or 0D models. The numerical code developed is able to simulate sparkignitionand compression-ignition, two-stroke and fourstroke,multi-cylinder and multi-valve engines, naturallyaspirated or turbo-charged, and different geometriesof the combustion chamber. The code was implementedin the scripting language Python, which isa dynamic object-oriented programming language thatoffers strong support for integration with other languagesand tools. The numerical methods used in thediscretization of the equations and implementation detailsare presented. Several test cases are included inorder to show the performance of the code.
