Resumen:
The intense development of Metal-Organic Frameworks(MOFs) and Covalent-Organic Frameworks (COFs)experienced along the last two decades reflects the interestof these compounds as a new generation of multifunctionalmaterials with diverse applications. Inspired by the firstworks of Prof. Omar Yaghi devoted to obtain open frameworksbased on rigid aromatic linkers and a variety of metalcenters, the scientific community encouraged to exercise thecreativity of designing new materials by the use of aliphaticligands as multitopic building blocks of coordination polymers. Here a revision of the literature dedicated to rare earthcoordination networks based mainly in succinate ligand andderivatives is performed. A structural analysis was carriedout based on the inner connectivities and topologiesdisplayed by 2D and 3D succinate-based structures. Wefocus in those compounds with potential catalytic andphotoluminescent (PL) technological applications. From thecatalytic point of view the performance of three reactionsusing REE-succinates, is discussed in terms of their acidity, dimensionality and available active centers towards theformation of desired products analyzing selectivity, yieldsand TOFs as parameters of interest. For the PL properties, diverse optical behavior in terms of the emission mechanism, colour, lifetimes, quantum yields and potential chemicaland thermal sensing is presented and compared withrelated phases in the literature
