Resumen:
The Enlightenment gave birth to our modern understanding of history. This discloses a rupture with the traditional orthodoxy. This article aims to show one of the features of this change in connection with history. In the first part of the paper, the role of history in the Encyclopédie is examined. Finally, l try to show how the rupture with the old conceptual view and the birth of the new epistemic domain of history is located within the Encyclopédie: in the article histoire written by Voltaire.
