We report on the exact Casimir interaction energy between twoAbstract.perfectly conducting, very long, eccentric cylindrical shells using a modesummation technique. Several limiting cases of the exact formula for the Casimirenergy corresponding to this configuration are studied both analytically andnumerically. These include concentric cylinders, cylinder-plane and eccentriccylinders, for small and large separations between the surfaces. For smallseparations we recover the proximity approximation, while for large separationswe find a weak logarithmic decay of the Casimir interaction energy, typical ofcylindrical geometries.
