Resumen:
An estimation of the ionospheric wave activity seasonal variability, derived from several years ofFORMOSAT 3/ COSMIC GPS (Taiwan´s Formosa Satellite Mission 3/Constellation ObservingSystem for Meteorology - Global Positioning System) radio occultation electron density datais presented. A systematic enhancement at the eastern side of the Andes range with respect tothe western side is observed. A fi tting method to remove the wavelike component from eachmeasured profi le and estimate the wave activity is applied. The di fferential eff ect introducedby the action of orography on the generation to the eastern side of the Andes of mountainwaves mainly during wintertime with respect to summertime deep convection waves, or evensecondary waves, is analyzed.
