Resumen:
HYSPLIT ? Grimm concentration correlations add new info, the aerosol size distribution analysis, and agree with the previous HYSPLIT ? CLF VAOD study (that showed a positive correlation between travel over continental areas and higher VAOD). Make possible the distinction between two comparable low concentration situations, July and August cases, that nevertheless significantly differ in the size distribution pattern which gives information about particles sources. This work shows for the first time results of size distribution of aerosols recorded at PAO. Once a correlation has been found between air masses trajectories and local measurements of aerosol size distribution patterns, the HYSPLIT model offers the possibility of inferring the aerosol characteristics independently of instrumental setup and permanent data taking. Knowledge of aerosol characteristics (e.i. size) is important for fluorescence light attenuation calculations but also in many other fields: interest of PAO for interdisciplinary science. The results can be applied also to other similar Andean sites (of interest as candidates for astrophysical observatories and solar centrals).
