Resumen:
HIV-1 infection in children less than 15 years of age is mainly due to mother to child transmission, while a small percentage is infected by blood transfusion or by sexual assault. We have published data from two cases of possible horizontal non sexual transmission involving children and adolescents, among the other few described. This is a new case of an HIV infection in a child in which the only risk factor recorded was an HIV infected father. Epidemiological and clinical data: The child was identified as HIV-1 infected at 4 years of age when admitted to the hospital due to growth delay and a positive ELISA for HIV. At birth she had suffered neonatal sepsis, and was 15 days in a hospital, but no diagnosis for HIV was performed. The girl lived with his parents, 1 sister and 1 brother. No evidence of sexual assault was recorded and she did not receive a transfusion. Infection was confirmed in the father one year before; while mother and siblings were negative. The father mentioned to have got the infection by a sanitary accident, but presented behaviors suspicious of bisexuality. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were obtained from both father and child. After PCR amplification,C2V3 region of envelope gene was sequenced.
