Resumen:
A restudy ofBothriceps major. aternnospondylfrom the Late Permian of Australia, has resulted in anew taxonomic assignment ofthe specimen. The species is returned to Trucheosaurus and the specimen is recognized as arhytidosteid, rather than abraehyopid. ThtIS, it constitutes the first Palaeozoic record of the RhyHdosteidae, which has long been considered 10 be restricted to the Early Tria.~sic. Aphylogenetic analysis of all taxa previously included in the snperfamily Rhytidosteoidea was perfonned. One monophyletic group, the family Rhytidosteidae, is recognized, but the relationships of most taxa within that clade remain unresolved.
