Conferencia invitada The International Heliophysical Year 2007 provides the appropriate framework to combine efforts in our region towards the understanding of this complex Sun-heliosphere coupled system We describe the research interests and available instrumentation of scientific groups in the region that have expressed their interest in participating and collaborating in research activities within the framework of IHY 2007 We discuss the degree of organization we have achieved so far, proposed and already sponsored projects within the United Nations Basic Space Science Initiative, our efforts to join groups to present new projects, the implementation of the regional Web page, and our planned future meetings both scientific and of coordination.
