Resumen:
We study the long-term evolution of bipolar active regions in which the main polarities are observed to turn one around the other  along several solar rotations. We propose that this peculiar evolution is due to the emergence of distorted magnetic flux tubes, which were deformed by  plasma motions during their ascent through the convection zone (CZ). We briefly discuss the possible influence of the Coriolis force in this process.
