Conferencia invitada. The motivation of this work has been to provide observational constraints on coronal heating models by testing their predictions for the heating rate in function of several physical parameters. We find that models involving the gradual stressing of the magnetic field, by slow footpoint motions,  are in generally better agreement with the observational constraints than wave heating models.
