Resumen:
TwoVerocelllinespersistentlyinfectedwithXJCl3andCl67strainsofJuninvirusandnamedV3andV7,respectively,havebeencharacterizedwithrespecttothepresenceandexpressionofthenucleoprotein(N)andtheglycoproteinprecursor(GPC)viralgenes.Aftertheacutephaseofinfection,whereamarkedCPEandhightitersofviruswereobtained,JVpersistentlyinfectedcellsbecamemorphologicallyundistinguishablefromVerocellsandvirusproductiondroppedtoundetectablelevels.V3andV7wereresistanttothesuperinfectionwithantigenicallyrelatedviruses.Thisfactcouldnotbeattributedtothepres-enceofdefectiveinterferingparticlesornon-infectiousvirusinthesupernatant.ExpressionofNwasconsistentlydetectedinbothculturesandaccumulationoftwodegradationproductsofNwasevidentduringthelatepassages.AlthoughnoG1(mainsurfaceglycoprotein)expressionwasobserved,amarkedfusogeniccapacitywasdetectedinbothculturesindicatingatleast,thesynthesisofaGPCderivedfusogenicglycoprotein.CelllysatesfromV3andV7subjectedtoRT-PCR,usingspecificprimersforNgene,ortoanestedRT-PCRusingspecificprimersforGPC(G1region)confirmedthepresenceofbothviralgenes.NoviralDNAsequencescouldbedetectedinJVpersistentlyinfectedcells.
