Resumen:
the aim of this paper is to analyze the experiences of some of manufacturing companies which have invested in Asia, not only through distribution channels, but also by means of setting up manufacturing facilities. This analysis will be mainly based on successful case studies of “translatinas” investing in Asia, and will make emphasis on the strategies and objectives of those firms, as well as on the opportunities for further investments as perceived by them and the challenges and requirements needed for investing in the region. The results of this study will contribute to design strategies aimed at fostering this kind of investments, which could help to counterbalance the current economic relations between both regions, based mostly in exports of natural resources from Latin America and imports of manufactures from Asia, and with low bilateral FDI flows between both regions.
