TiO2 photocatalytic oxidation of As(III) in the presence of Hg(II)

As(III) and Hg(II) are known by their toxicity and environmental damage. Heterogeneous photocatalysis (HP) appears as a convenient alternative for As and Hg removal and, in this work, the HP oxidation of As(III) was studied in the presence of Hg(II) in equimolar ratio. Straight evidence is presented of enhanced As(III) oxidation using TiO2 photocatalysis in the presence of Hg(II) in the absence of oxygen.
