Resumen:
To avoid the expensive recovery step of suspended TiO2 in heterogeneous photocatalysis, the immobilization of the photocatalyst is necessary. The plasma electrolytic oxidation technique (PEO) is an electrochemical method useful to obtain porous and crystalline TiO2 coatings on titanium substrates. This technique allows doping of the coatings by the incorporation of metal salts such as Ag+ or Fe3+ at different concentrations in the electrolyte. In this work, the influence of the doping of TiO2 samples prepared by PEO on the photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) in the presence of EDTA as a synergetic agent is presented. The incorporation of metallic elements at low concentrations in a simple way improved the photocatalytic performance of pure TiO2 in the Cr(VI) transformation up to 16% and 14% for Ag and Fe, respectively.
