Resumen:
This paper aims to contribute to the debate on democracy in Latin America under the premise that it encompasses options that go beyond the stability and permanence of a system and embraces scenarios that shape our societies and their political projects. It will present a few conceptual aspects linked to the regional historical context with special emphasis on the complex relation between politics and economy. Then, it will strive to understand the different ideas contained in the notion of democracy, given that they presume an underlying political-economic model. Also, it is proposed a few core topics which appear as the new emerging themes in the discussion on democracy and development.
