Resumen:
The article attempts to contribute to the discussion on democracy in Latin America.  This is done from the supposition that democracy offers choices which transcend the stability and permanence of the regime, to be entrenched into scenarios that shape our societies and their political undertakings. As the new political-economic model which is being articulated, presupposes a re-definition of State, society and market relations, its model of application, as well as its relationships with a certain type of development, becomes relevant again. In this context, a transition towards an inclusive democracy is proposed.  This requires the co-ordination of an economic strategy with a new institutionalisation plan.  The challenge is to reconcile democracy with a strategy for an inclusive modernisation and development, that at the same time will aspire towards extending the parameters for manoeuvring and decision-making autonomy, in a framework of globalisation.
