Resumen:
The general goal of this study was to investigate the fate of organochlorine pesticides (OCP) from agricultural surrounding areas on estuarial and near-coastal zones. Thus, we evaluated whether OCP fish distribution pattern reflects the OCP land sources, and the bioaccumulation and biomagnification of these contaminants comparing different tissues of juvenile and adults of Cynoscion guatucupa (Cuvier, 1830). Metabolite / parental concentration ratios suggested that adult fish have high enzimatic detoxication capacity with respect to juvenile. Size- related bioaccumulation in C. guatucupa was more important for the more lipophilic and biomagnifying pollutants and it would be mainly due to accumulation over time and diet influence. Endosulfan sulfate, chlordanes, HCH isomers and DDT compounds predominated in tissues and ingested food of C. guatucupa, being a - chlordane, heptachlor and p, p´- DDE highly bioaccumulated and biomagnificated. Our findings showed that male adults of C. guatucupa are good indicators of OCP pollution so we propose this species for further investigations in other coastal zones of South America.
