Resumen:
Ceria-supported base metal catalysts (Cu and/or Ni) were prepared, characterised and examined for the WGS reaction at moderate temperatures (250-450°C. The effect of several variables (preparation method, catalyst formulation, metal content) on both the sample structure and the catalytic performance was analyzed. Copper and/or nickel catalysts were prepared by impregnation of a ceria support synthesized by the urea thermal decomposition method and also by coprecipitation of copper and cerium by the same method. Nickel has shown to be more active than copper for WGS reaction. Even more, catalytic activity increases with nickel loading of the samples. In particular under our reaction conditions, the conversion obtained with sample 5NiO/CeO2 reaches equilibrium conversion for temperatures higher than 360°C.
