Resumen:
In this contribution we will briefly describe thefossil findings of Barnadesioideae and Mutisioideae s.l. in southern SouthAmerica and the historical biogeographic methods applied to these groups that suggesta possible origin of the family Asteraceae in this area. We will also discussthe possible scenario that describes how the early members of the familydispersed from southern South America to the rest of the world.
