Resumen:
Thegrasshopper Leptysma argentina possesses a highly polymorphic karyotype whichsuggests that the species is undergoing a period of intensive chromosomalrestructuration and evolution. The two populations studied in this work showed:(1) Polymorphism for a centric fusion between two telocentric autosomes; (2)Polymorphism for an interstitial supernumerary segment in the smallestautosome; (3) Presence of a proximal supernumerary segment in the secondsmallest autosome; (4) Polymorphism for a B-chromosome; (5) Heterozygosity fora complex spontaneous translocation between autosomes; (6) At least two centricshifts in two pairs of autosomes.Another interesting feature of thecytogenetics of these populations was the occurrence, in a relatively highfrequency, of dicentric bridges and acentric fragments in Anaphase I probablydue to errors in crossing-over.
