Resumen:
The current environmental crisis is very important and industries must implement new wasterwater treatment or optimize the existing. The most used today is the technology of biological reactors. The Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactor has been widely applied for the treatment of many types of wastewaters. The UASB reactors have many advantages compared to traditional anaerobic treatment. In the present study we evaluated the granulation process using activated sludge and vinasse previously characterized. We designed a UASB reactor, dimensions: 220 cm of height, 30 cm of internal diameter, 706.5 cm2 of area, and total volume 155430 cm3. Conditions: Time: 218 days, VCO of 1 g COD /l.d (vinasse), upflow velocity of 1 m / h, feed flow rate of 1.6 l /d. The selection of sludge with good methanogenic activity even with high SSF, tested positive for startup and granulation process. Greater than 80% removal of COD from stillage used was obtained, showing that these systems are suitable for the treatment of effluent with a high organic load. 0.4 mm - At 30 days after stabilizing the system, granules of sizes between 0.2-0.4 mm were obtained. At the end of the test were observed size granules between 3.5 ? 4.0 mm.
