Resumen:
Trabajo enviado a publicar en espera de la revisiónIn order to obtain high yeast biomass production from sorghum juice, response surface methodology (RSM) was used to study the effect of supplementing nutrients (urea and monopotassium phosphate), temperature, agitation and aeration. A 23 central composite design (CCD) was chosen to explain the combined effects of the nutrients and temperature. The mathematical model designed led to the determination of optimal culture condition of 506 ppm phosphorus, 857 ppm nitrogen, and a temperature of 33.15°C obtaining a predicted maximum biomass production of 12.69g L-1. The optimal combination of factors was further validated by conducting experiments at laboratory and pilot scales revealed a enhanced biomass production of 12.78 g L-1 and 16.12g L-1 respectively representing an increase of 20.71%. Our findings demonstrate that this experimental design is suitable for adjusting the parameters in order to maximize the production of yeast.
