The almost 300 mdeep surface mine exposures at El Guanaco mine offers a unique opportunity toexplore the three-dimensional arrangement of hydrothermal alterationassemblages of a HS deposit. The lateral and vertical alteration zoning thatcharacterized HS deposits reflects the reaction and neutralization of early andbarren high- temperature acidic fluids as they interact with the host rocks.The detailed recognition of volcanic units within the volcanic pile helps tounderstand the distribution of the later high Au-Cu mineralization event.
