Resumen:
The effect of foliar applications of selenium was evaluated on photosynthetic parameters and yield in broccoli plants grown under field conditions. The results indicatedthat treatments with 100 g ha-1 of selenate or selenite significantly increased the photosynthetic rate compared to the control. Also, both treatments caused a reductionin the transpiration rate; resulting in greater water use efficiency. The increase in dry matter content was approximately between 5 and 10 % for selenate and selenite, respectively. From the results obtained here, it could be suggested that there is a greater production and transport of photoassimilates to the head of broccoli, due tothe foliar application of selenium.
