Resumen:
During the last 30 years, soybean crop area has increased 30-fold in Argentina, driven by globalization-related factors, namely expanding international food markets, transgenic cultivars technology, and increasing rainfall associated to global climate change. The trend in global drivers of soybean expansion strongly suggest that deforestation of subtropical dry ecosystems will continue, largely independently from local socioeconomic conditions.
