Resumen:
In thisworkwereportthecovalentfunctionalizationofmultiwalledcarbonnanotubes(MWCNTs)withpolyacrylonitrile(PAN)andpolyvinylpyridine(PVP)bythegraftfrommethod.Differencesintheelectronicdistributionofbothpolymersresultedindifferentinteractionbetweenpolymersandthenanotubes.ItwasfoundthatPVPchainswrappedthenanotubeswhilenanotubesfunctionalizedwithPAN presentedPANchainsformingamorphousentanglementsonthenanoscalelinkedtotheMWCNTs.DifferencesintheconformationbetweenbothpolymersandtheMWCNTscanbeattributedtointeractionsbetweenthearomaticgroupsinPVPandtheMWCNTsthrough p–p stacking.Theabsenceof aromaticgroupsinthecaseofthePANchainsfavourstheinteractionbetweenthem.ThefunctionalizationefficiencywascharacterizedusingFouriertransforminfraredspectroscopy(FT-IR),thermogravimetricanalysis(TGA)andUV–visspectroscopy,whilemorphologicalchangeswerecharacterizedbyhighresolutiontransmissionelectronmicroscopy.
