Recientes avances en la investigación de estrellas binarias

This contribution presents a review of some areas of astrophysical research where binary and multiple stars play a prominent role in providing information about various astrophysical problems. Such problems include the origin of the peculiar stars, the dynamics and evolution of both star clusters and of the Galaxy and the scale of extragalactic distances. Some research guidelines opened in the lastfew years are to be highlighted as well as the new perspectives brought about by current observational resources and methods of analysis.
