The idea that avant-garde art movements began in Paris and from there were distributed throughout the world to other cities considered to be peripheral was shaken by the interruption imposed by the Second World War. The German occupation of Paris planted without a doubt that Western culture was under threat. Modern art could (and should) be continued in other parts of the globe. Artists in Buenos Aires saw themselves perfectly poised to carry the baton of the avant-garde forward. This lecture will discuss Argentinean artists Gyula Kosice, Lidy Pratti and Tomás Maldonado?s works as a paradigmatic cases of the post-war abstract avant-garde in Latin America in terms of its forms (or visual language), ideas and ideology
