Resumen:
Both influential and controversial, the sixty-year art-critical practice of Jorge Romero Brest (1928-1989) was fundamental not only for the introduction of the idea of modern art in Latin America but also for the problematization of its crisis.  During more that sixty years, Jorge Romero Brest faced the most profound aesthetic transformation of the art of the twentieth century with a dynamic intellect.  His version of modernism ultimately argued for a unified genealogy that integrated the art of Latin America to the central narrative of European art.
