Resumen:
AbstractThe major objectives of the current study were to determine the distribution of parental PAHs in surficial soils and to use molecular indices to gain nformation about the sources, process and/or pathways involved in the observed distributions. Analysis (performed at RECETOX, Research Centre for Toxic Compounds in the Environment, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic)were conducted by means of GC/MS, and included a total of 27 parent PAHs ranging from diaromatics to hexa-aromatics. Results showed that all analized soils contained a detectable amount of PAHs, ranging from less than 30 ng g-1 to more than 500 ng g-1. The study area lies within low to moderately polluted environments, with the highest PAHs level recorded at Bahía Blanca City, the most populated area including a high density of industries. In terms ofconcentration, a decreasing gradient could be observed following decreasing population at the surrounding area of the sampling location.
