Resumen:
Low radiation doses induce significant changes inpolymer properties, due to their high molecularweights. Irradiation is also economically advantageousand environmentally friendly when compared withother chemical modification techniques since it avoidsthe use of elevated temperatures and reagents. It is, aswell, an effective sterilization process.Polymers are generally classified into those thatpredominantly lead to crosslink between their chainsand those that primarily degrade under the effect ofradiation. The degree of these changes depends on thepolymer structure and the conditions of treatment. The aim of this investigation consists of getting a betterunderstanding on the influence of either type ofirradiation, gamma vs electron beam radiation (EB), theenvironment (vacuum vs air) for gamma radiation, mainly in the viscoelastic properties of liquidpolydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and semicrystallinemetallocenic isotactic polypropylene (iPP), commercialand synthetic homo and copolymers, within ta similarmolecular weight
