New homoisoflavanone and a related compound from Polygonum ferrugineum (Polygonaceae).

Abstract: We report here the isolation and structural elucidation of a homoisoflavanone (1) and its open form (2) from the methanolic extract of dry leaves of Polygonum ferrugineum Wedd. (common name Caatay guazú), an argentinean native shrub wich has not been previously studied. 1 is a new compound which possess an OH substituent in C-11 and (2) is its new open C ring derivative. This type of compounds have not been found in Polygonum genus before, and represents an interesting finding since the occurrence of homoisoflavanones is very restricted in nature.
